Body-Based Wisdom For Finding Peace

Whether you’re living with a chronic condition, supporting a loved one through caregiving, or nearing the end of your life, at Close Comforts, we offer support that makes the journey easier.

Hi, I’m Elizabeth, founder of Close Comforts. With over 21 years experience as an allied health professional (shiatsu and massage therapy), my approach is gentle yet straightforward. I have experienced how emotional and spiritual healing can be facilitated by compassionate touch, and feel privileged to share this work, both 1-1 with clients and through educational trainings for healthcare professionals.

Away from work, I love exploring forests with my dog and paddleboarding the beautiful coastal waters of BC. These moments outdoors are vital for recharging my spirit and strengthening my ability to care for others.

I would be honoured to support you on your journey. Reach out today and learn how our work together can help you find more comfort and peace.

Why I do this work

My path to palliative massage and end-of-life doula care was shaped by experiences close to my heart—not professional training alone.

During the covid pandemic, I cared for a much-loved elder in my extended family who was experiencing the beginning stages of dementia. She wanted to stay at home, but no longer felt safe alone. So, I took leave from my massage therapy work at a clinic, and moved in as her caregiver and doula.

Caregiving and care-receiving are not always easy! One afternoon, I felt palpable tension between me and my dear elder. As I brought my attention to my breath to calm my own nerves, I remembered a research article I had recently read that showed promising results for massage to reduce agitation in people with dementia! (Here is a link to a more recent version of the research).

I decided to put aside my own frustrations and offer my dear elder a scalp massage. I was pleased she accepted, and was amazed by what happened next: the tension in both our bodies and the energy in the room softened. Agitation shifted to vulnerable communication about the difficulties of losing independence. Our hearts opened.

More recently, I walked alongside a close family member through her final year living with cancer. Gentle massage was often the only thing that brought relief – however temporary – to the pain and nausea.

These experiences taught me something profound: touch carries healing power that goes beyond techniques. It communicates safety and “you matter” and “I will be here even in your darkest moments.” It gives permission to rest, and validates pain without needing an explanation.

My mission—and what guides Close Comforts—is clear: to help people find peace in their living and dying. At Close Comforts, we build a calmer, more caring world, one touch at a time.
